It was praises galore for the Chairman of the Interim Management Committee, Ngor Okpala Local Government Area, Hon Charles Abara, in Umuneke, the council headquarters, on Monday, November 4, 2019, during the flag off of ICT skills training program for 170 indigenes of the area.
The trainees are the first set to benefit from the training program which the chairman said will become a continuous one as well as a key component of his administrations empowerment drive owing to the key role of ICT in the world presently.
One of the trainees and a traditional ruler in the council, Eze Emmanuel Eke, who spoke on behalf of the trainees showered encomiums on the chairman for his visionary leadership style which sees human capital development and acquisition of skills especially in ICT as a sine qua non.
Eze Eke who is the traditional ruler of Umukabia Ogodo, disclosed that he was motivated to enroll for the training by some awkward moments and experiences he had when travelled to the United States of America, USA, earlier this year.
According to him while there he saw that almost every transaction whether in offices and business places were all being done online, pointing out that he was embarrassed several times while transacting businesses there because he had no knowledge of computer.
He noted that, that eye opening experience made him resolve to grab every opportunity that will come his way to acquire skills in ICT since it is ruling the world now, even as he praised the council chairman for being thoughtful and insightful in packaging a program that has the potential to change lives.
Also speaking, the Director of Adminstration and General Services, DAGS of the council Sir Henry Chukwuka stated that the ICT centre in the council was lying waste and the equipments rotting away before Hon Abara considered it wise and necessary to resuscitate and make it functional again for the use of workers and training of people of the council.
Sir Chukwuka noted that with the speed activities and businesses are being digitized at the moment, it will amount to suicide for individuals and societies to fail to join the online movement, just as he called on the trainees to take advantage of the program, saying the council may consider offering job to those who will excel if the state government grants waiver for employment.
In his address at the event, Hon Abara expressed joy on the commencement of training stressing that ICT is a major focal point of the Gov Emeka Ihedioha’s Imo Rebuild Administration as shown by the innovation of the ministry of ICT.
The chairman further noted that he resolved to initiate the program owing to the fact that ICT is now the future of both the world and the workplace, adding that it was in furtherance of this realization that made his team to resolve to make it a continuous exercise in the council.
He announced plans to procure fifty more computers to help create opportunity for more people to be trained, pointing out that he is working towards getting approval from Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB for the centre to become one of the centres for Computer Based Testing currently being run by the examination body, pointing out its realization will not only bring JAMB centre closer to candidates from the area, but also boost its Internally Generated Revenue.
The chairman who commended all those who contributed in making the take off a huge success, charged the trainees to take the training serious because of the numerous benefits that will come out of it.
